What are some important freedoms that traditional freedom indices (Freedom House, Heritage Economic Freedom, etc) are missing? (note: I *don't* mean in the "real freedom means high speed trains, being safe and having public healthcare" direction, I mean like actual freedoms, but ones that usual indices neglect)

Real free speech in the sense that there are no illegal opinions. The US is one of the only countries in the world that meets that bar rn, but countries with whole swathes of illegal opinion (Germany, UK) rank higher on freedom house "civil liberties" than the US

A lot of freedoms are too subjective to be captured in indices, e.g. the cultural freedom to enjoy divergent hobbies/vocations/identities without social ostracism

not sure, traditional freedoms are pretty vague & not absolutely negative rights. ig freedom to sample/survey, freedom to permutate money & other finance, freedom to predict, etc.

Education - can you home school? Most countries demand you send you kid to a state sanctioned institution for 18 years under threat of penalty. Crazy to think we are forced to send kids to these quasi jails.

Hmm, those indices are usually pretty comprehensive, but maybe freedom of personal data? e.g., right to be forgotten/data privacy, the right to know what data has been collected from/about you and who has access to it (either by state or nonstate actors), the right to your own data and the ability to move/transfer it.

What about body autonomy. It's broad but a few I can think of that relate are euthanasia, decriminalization of drugs, and freedom of doing certain medical procedures etc. freedom to do with my body what I want.

HOA index would be interesting. I moved away from a harsh HOA years ago, but it is becoming harder and harder to find homes not within an HOA. Some are loosely managed, but many are managed by people who will gladly restrict your freedom to use your home as you wish for some expected % of average home value.
