I finished the assignment on the due date. I had it ready, everything was done. 
But I completely forgot to submit it. I only realized after the deadline had passed.

You just have to beg whoever that's in charge but if it's something you can forfeit and do better on the next one then it's fine leaving it.

But have you tried taking it to the  lecturer, don't give up yet. You can still submit.
