I know someone who did something like this while he was still in college. He ended up getting sued by United Airlines for gaming their booking system. United lost the case, so contacted his university to convince them to expel him. Harvard concluded this was actually a display of genius and refused to expel him.

After graduation, he started a successful corporate travel booking agency where he continued running experiments like this to see where the airline systems had blind spots. He once got me a ton of free points that I traveled with for years.
