I can’t imagine he accomplishes most of what he promised, but no doubt it will set the city, and the broader economy by extension, back quite a bit. ￼

Not a New Yorker (love the city & been there many times, but never as a resident). 

From what I can tell, his goals/policies/propositions run counter to economic growth.

What’s your take?

He wants to mirror New Jersey’s corporate tax rate and add a 2% tax for people earning over $1M, which is somewhat radical and not likely to pass in Albany.

my wife and friends who’ve worked in city government with Brad Lander, the comptroller, are cautiously optimistic, and he is supporting Mamdami. They don’t think a lot of his campaign promises will come to fruition, but he’s already moving the dialogue on what much of the city wants — free childcare and better use of city funds to manage people facing homelessness and addiction. Instead of paying 10% of the city budget to cops (including overtime), we could have groups actually trained in helping people facing mental crisis

That all makes sense. I’m just not sure the policies will actually produce those results. We’ll see!

my take is that nyc doesnt need to grow infinitely, and that its become less of a place for working families and the poor pre but esp post pandemic. i dont expect him to achieve all of his goals, but hes running on a platform of making nyc more liveable and sustainable, which is immediately necessary izo
