That’s an awful long gap. Feels almost manufactured to present this as European vs Asian. Not saying it’s your motive, obviously, but I have to imagine this is a popular graphic amongst white supremacists. Would be more useful to see it in decades or if presented as two, some closers periods than 100 years (pre-ww2 until now)

Not sure where that image is getting 2025 data from but based on prior census data you’re able to see back somewhat. This data is before the Canadian government increased immigration massively over covid, from india predominantly.

Forgot to clarify this is from Alberta census data.

So this is from Alberta specifically? Why do you think the German speaking fell? Did they move away? Does make sense in the context of the big shift in immigration that took place in the Trudeau years, especially due to the massage labour shortages, especially in Alberta. Just curious

This is purely speculative from living here and having german heritage in my family. But my assumption would be that german immigrants that spoke german as a first language were of the older generation and didn’t pass the language onto their kids. Most kids of german descent assimilated into Canada. So as the boomers have been dying off, so has the german language here.

Yes that one is Alberta specifically. This one shows % increase for growing languages in all of Canada from 2016-2021.
