Countdown to the Switch 2's launch - 8 days 

(I once again forgot to post a day, so this post is for Wednesday)

I'm going to highlight one thing I am excited for each day as we countdown to the console's release early next month.

The Switch 2 will not use the same type of SD cards for storage as the original Switch did. Instead it will use SD Express (for physical games) and MicroSD Express cards (for expanding the system storage).

This is both good and bad. The system's 256gb of built in storage will likely get used up quickly as games this generation are much larger than previously. SD Express will allow for much faster read and write times than regular SD. The downside here is that there are not many of these on the market yet and they are rather expensive currently. Millions of Switch 2s in the wild will mean that more are released and this will bring prices down in the next couple years. This will also mean that 3rd party game devs will try to avoid using them for physical games for now.

I'm going to highlight one thing I am excited for each day as we countdown to the console's release early next month.

The Switch 2's beefier hardware will allow for many more 3rd party titles this generation than last. It should be able to support many of the same titles that have been on Playstation, Xbox and PC in recent years. There will be some great ports coming out for high end titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Split Fiction, both of which will be available on launch day. I will be playing Split Fiction for sure.

We should see many new 3rd party titles being released around the same time they are made available on other systems and I assume this will mean much more cross platform multiplayer this generation too.

I’m still gonna be so hesitant. 

Every third party title I bought on the switch one, even most lighter indie stuff, played so poorly I ended up rebuying on steam deck. Even stardew valley regularly glitches out when there’s lots of sprites on screens.

I know they’re going much bigger but I just hope it pays off

Yeah in the mines and especially in the Skull Cavern. It’s whenever lots of stuff is spawning. My character will literally lay and by the time it catches up it looks like I jump or enemies bouncing back from my hits are being shot crazy fast.

Right. I've experienced that in certain games like Overwatch but I guess I'm just so casual of a gamer that it's never bothered me too much.

I think the various techs employed in the new system, like DLSS, should help. Certainly some games are just optimized better than others on the OG Switch.

Yeah it seems to be a huge improvement. I’m just so hooked on my steam deck I won’t be rushing to lock myself back into the next hot Nintendo thing. I’m too cheap. But I will definitely upgrade in a year or two when there’s something that compels me to.

Yea that makes sense. I didn't buy the original Switch till it was almost 3 years old. Covid hit and it made sense. This is the first time I'll be getting a new system on day 1. Closest would be with the Wii when I got it like 4 or 5 days in
