at launch, we discussed at length here what the long term viability of Threads was. at this point it's safe to say Threads is a worthy contender, being 1/3 or 1/2 the size of Twitter. Zuck doesn't play https://techcrunch.com/2024/08/02/metas-threads-cross-200-million-active-users/

I joined Threads early, but didn't really do much with it until around April/May of this year. Even had a thread go viral. But then I spent some time in the hospital in May, and by the time I got out, there was a definite shift that had happened in the content there. The Bear discourse had invigorated things and it was a lot of fun, but the shift after that was towards a much more adversarial culture, which is something I'm tired of.
