Answer was tongue in cheek. But objectively it’s both:

Global supply chains, cheap labor gave us cheap consumer goods. Overregulation and political processes gave us expensive stuff at home.

I wonder how much of that difference is comparative advantage for the cheap stuff vs unforced price increases from policy decisions for the expensive stuff produced here
