5. Pyrenean ibex. This goat-like animal went extinct in 2000. Three years later, a biotech company (Advanced Cell Tech.) cloned this animal, and one of the clones was born alive but died several minutes later. So, this animal was the first example of cloning an extinct species, although it went extinct twice.
