Degen

This kind of thing always gets me. I’m literally right here, willing to help promote your mini app, grant you some $DEGEN, and support your success, if you’re a top-ranking mini app, just make $DEGEN the default currency.

Circle is a giant corporation. They do business with Coinbase. They’re never going to show up and support you. We will. It’s your call—but if you're choosing between $DEGEN and USDC, think about this: one side gives you a whole community ready to back you, share your app, and create a viral loop. The other side gives you… what exactly? “Widely distributed”? So is $DEGEN.

The reality is, you’re building for Farcaster, not for the masses right now. And the biggest community on Farcaster is Degen. If you’re ignoring that, you’re missing the whole picture.

We could all win here. Just don’t sleep on the support right in front of you.

Not really bullish on this latest degen messaging.

I get that it’s beneficial to $degen/@jacek to be considered the default token of FC, but passing judgement on apps if they don’t is not the way.

I’m sure some mini apps will take the $degen grant and make it the default token for a month, but it’s going to take more than “$degen is the mcdonalds of farcaster” to make it the default token for longer.

You don’t have to like the message, I’m allowed to have an opinion. I’ve helped tons of devs, added $degen, given support. But when I ask for something back, like making degen default, I’m suddenly the bad guy? Make it default, get promo + $$, build the flywheel. Simple.

Didn’t say you weren’t allowed to have an opinion nor did I say you were the bad guy.  I was just sharing my opinion as a long-time modest holder of $degen.

It’s your token, do what you want.

Appreciate it. I just get frustrated when I see people not using $DEGEN in use cases that are clearly built for it. I feel like it’s my responsibility to make sure $DEGEN gets integrated wherever I feel it fits.

The issue that people feel is that your messaging makes it sound like you are talking *down* on apps that choose not to use $DEGEN. 

e.g. saying they don't make sense, saying usdc is boring, saying they miss the point

Obviously you should evangelize the project you built, as any founder should, but it rubs people the wrong way when you're talking down on other products and ecosystem builders versus just focusing on making the case for $DEGEN and competing in the open market.

Anyways - looking fwd to using the app when it’s live and hopefully your thesis proven correct by the market!

“Calling a spade a spade” applies if you were calling out shady or unethical behavior, this is a disagreement about ….*checks notes*….default token settings.

yeah i get it, not everyone vibes with the more direct tone. but it’s just how i see things, and i’ve been deep in this Farcaster scene long enough that i feel like i’ve earned the right to call stuff out when it looks off to me. it’s not about dunking for the sake of it, i just care a lot about what we’re building here and want to push it in a direction that actually makes sense long-term. that means calling a spade a spade sometimes.

Agree, leveraging our skills is exactly why we’re building the Degen app. I think that’s where we have a real shot at winning.

btw, has Base been giving grants to mini app devs? Any stats or overview anywhere?

To be clear, I think max integration is a good strategy.  And I think you’re not going to win the integration war competing with grants and promo.

I think you can do much better than that by leveraging your skills @jacek .

Offering grants and promotion isn’t unique - most builders can get more of both of those from BASE than degen so they are more likely to give BASE their attention.  That’s just one example - there are sooo many more offering grants and promotion.  Coupled with an aloof tone, it’s ngmi.

If the message leaned in more to degen’s unique qualities (ie most held/distributed token on FC, and here’s proof, and here are ways to leverage it), that can’t be replicated.
