The produce at normal (fka middle class) grocery stores goes bad much faster now Bought a box of organic strawberries yesterday, and a few were already covered with mold this morning Rarely happens with produce from upper class stores (eg. Whole Foods). Yet another way the growing class disparity is felt (but hidden)

Yes, where I live (industrial urban area) it’s almost impossible to get good produce now. We don’t even have a Whole Foods near me. And even the “farmer’s market” stores are not selling local produce. It’s just become the reality that only about 1/2 of what I buy is gonna be edible ☹️ A few years ago I learned about how produce auctions work. And this explained so much. Produce imports arrive at a big distribution warehouse, where they are bid on by suppliers from the different chains. The produce is separated by quality. And all the upper class chains bid higher to get the high quality produce
