I always wonder why in tech you never hear anything about God, but in sports it’s common to see athletes and coaches give glory to God. I think it’s due to a number of factors. Pro athletes and coaches are the cream of the crop and actually have to do hard things to keep their jobs. Also, the act of playing a sport involves surrendering control in most scenarios. Leaning on God becomes much more obvious to a coach or athlete. Tech bros and leaders control everything down to the 1s and 0s; they control centralized databases with everyone’s personal information; they create algorithms to control us. Because of this they think of themselves as God’s.

Been talking about Jesus since I got to web3. Don’t be discouraged, be dependent on Him as life. That’s the key to blockchain Christianity.

idk about “tech bros” but tech people usually come from sciences and scientific method tends to distance people from god.

Yeah but I’d say it’s also that religion nowadays can be more sensitive to speak about in the office unless there is an ERG of some sorts in place for people to be apart of outside of work hours. It’s a lot more common for sports to mention religion as it’s common practice from little leagues and up, via pre game/post game speeches + huddles — either way def cool to see the NFL including a bible study!

As long as your faith is strong, things can change. You keep discussing and preaching the Greatness of God, and more will follow. Even in tech, I’m thinking.

Cultural difference? I think we also have Christian athletes in Germany, but faith is more or less a private matter. I know of a Christian athlete (Olympian gold medalist from the German team) who is a public Christian but she has an African background.

I think this is not entirely true, because God and his teachings penetrate every sphere, even where it seems impossible. Famous Christians in Tech Kevin Systrom – Co-founder of Instagram Raised Catholic. Known for ethical thinking in design and social media. Jimmy Wales – Founder of Wikipedia Methodist background. Advocates for knowledge freedom and moral responsibility. Vint Cerf – “Father of the Internet” Orthodox Christian. Speaks on ethics and responsibility in tech. DHH (David Heinemeier Hansson) – Creator of Ruby on Rails Protestant. Often discusses tech ethics and human-centered design. Tony Reinke – Author of “12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You” Christian writer focusing on digital habits and spiritual health. John Dyer – Theologian & Programmer Develops tech tools for churches; explores the intersection of faith and coding. Mark Zuckerberg – Founder of Facebook (Meta) Once atheist, now open about the importance of faith and spirituality.

Some of my most prayerful moments have been deploying a new version of an app that involves a significant change, and tabbing between elastic beanstalk environment updates and datadog, praying I don’t see an error spike

I think it's too imposing. Imagine if the coach decided the team should study Book of Mormon or the Quran. Better to let players form bible groups based on friendships w/ teammates
