A few years ago I joined this little startup as Head of Product. At the time there were three full-time employees, zero customers, and almost no technology. Today Bloomberg published a feature about us revealing that the total value of the property we insure in California has now reached $28 billion. So it's going pretty well! http://bit.ly/4dlritX

Very cool! Does the model account for any specific neighborhood design elements, or even at the individual house level, that might make a house less risky? I guess I’m not sure if those kind of defensible design elements have as much impact as the surrounding vegetation.

Good question… we split our view of the risk in two categories: 1) How likely is it that there is a fire at this particular lat/long? 2) If there is a fire there, how likely that the home survives? We have expertise in both questions, although most of our emphasis so far has been on #1. Lots of #2 related stuff on the roadmap. But yes, what your neighbors do (ie: clearing brush) totally matters
