Creator Rewards Update

Farcaster is changing our rewards program to match how the Base rewards program works. Casts posted from the Farcaster app will count towards Farcaster rewards points while casts posted from the base app will count towards Base's rewards system.    

What if I use Recaster or some other Farcaster app?

If you are an indie or early-stage team building on the Farcaster protocol, we will include casts from your app in the rewards program. 

Why are we doing this?   

Base’s new creator rewards program gives out rewards only for casts from the Base app. As of today, Farcaster gives out rewards to any casts posted from any app. 

We think a fair approach is for each client to incentivize users to participate in their app. Users benefit from competition between apps, and can choose which one they want to participate in.

Nope and the 120$ for Farcaster Pro going to protocol rewards seem to now be Merkle rewards again unless that’s not clarified / different

In the launch post from @dwr.eth it never said go to protocol. It only said go to users and developers in weekly rewards. Meaning maybe we should have known.

BUT see quoted cast where its clearly stated Farcaster Pro is a protocol level thing and not app level so I’d love to know what happens to my $120 and the total millions paid for FC Pro.

Adding on Dan has been very strongly saying Merkle has a track record of developing a protocol that’s open with progressive decentralization step by step and we should take that at face value. So interesting to see how PROTOCOL level revenue will be handled here for a now APP EXCLUSIVE reward pool.

We’re planning to launch a new, optional “Pro” protocol subscription

1. At launch, subscribers will have a Pro badge on their profile

2. Subscription will be onchain and part of the protocol. 100% of the proceeds go to casters / developers in weekly rewards. This in addition to the existing $25K+ a week in rewards. 

3. Planning to add longer casts (10K characters) and up to 4 images per cast for pro subscribers (needs a protocol change). Additional features over time.

4. $120 a year / $10 a month 
Why are we doing this?

- The protocol needs to find long-term revenue source that can continue fund caster and developer rewards beyond any one company.  
- We originally thought storage fees could be that, but we’ve realized that storage fees should be essentialy free to help growth. 
- So we’re trying an opt-in pro subscription as another model

Why now?

- Figuring out a long-term revenue model that works will allow us to double down on investing in growth

The change to rewards only if you use Merkle‘s client makes sense on all fronts though I’d be very confused if FC Pro Money (aka PROTOCOL level money) will be used for these APP exclusive rewards.
