If trump remained committed to this path there was absolutely no way that even the most pro immigration reform people would be able to stomach it for more than a couple months 

Militarized work place raids and targeting foriegn looking people in traffic are horrible optics and most American voters dont have the stomach for it

And Homan just raised the daily "quota" to 7,000. They're already running out of legitimte criminals who are here illegally. Also, ICE will be looking for ways to spend that massive new budget and huge military vehciles everywhere while we're being told we can't afford park rangers and meteorologists is going to require gold medal level mental gymnastics to justify.
