Normally I’d think someone must have missed a joke somewhere along the way, but a friend who works in the YA ‘literature’ business was telling me about this a long time ago, so it seems like something is actually happening.

Is it an entertainment thing though or a cognition thing? I just don’t get how if it’s a cognition thing how you’re a functioning adult without having that ability

Both. The type of entertainment you usually consume (hate that word, but seems fitting in this context) shapes your cognition. It has a more pronounced impact when you’re younger, but it’s not like you gain immunity to it as you age…
