best viewed as content subscription imo

But... If the content is decentralized, why do I need a subscription?

you don't need one—that's a beautiful thing about it but the idea is to create a fly wheel where people are willing to put money into a pot that will go to making the network more interesting the extra features like badge, nft, 4 embeds, and app specific benefits like longer videos are better if you're paying for music, film, TV subscriptions and spend a relatively equal number of hours consuming FC content it seems reasonable to want to contribute to that flywheel but also reasonable not to ofc

this is very fair - and if the subscription was directly tied to content (e.g. onchain, contractual dispersement), I'd be all for it All the stated benefits are app-specific though and about me extending my own reach (vs having a better experience through content)

fair! re content: 100% of the money will go directly to content and we do send it all out onchain it does flow through a centralized entity now, making this more direct would be cool and the direction to head but it's incredibly hard to do that in a fair way without it all getting gamed in practice though the rewards are generally pretty good at rewarding the users producing valuable content for the network and onchain mechanisms like tipping further circulate this money in more bottom up ways
