I showed the new coinbase wallet (beta) to someone who is not deeply entrenched in crypto. Their reaction: So, it replaces 1) Facebook [IG, tiktok, X], 2) Apple Wallet, 3) Venmo, AND 4) the App Store? 😱 And it takes care of all the wallet complexity? 😱 And anyone will be able to access it and use it? 😱 And users still have self custody over their funds? 😱 Needless to say, they were impressed and could see how this becomes a massively adopted platform

Did they actually say this? > And users still have self custody over their funds? 😱 I've never heard anyone outside of crypto even ask about this.

Ahhh, ok that makes more sense! I also have not met anyone who is pro-crypto but doesn't use it so I assumed that meant a complete outsider. My bad!

I know a good number of people who see crypto as an investment - they'll own BTC/SOL/ETH through coinbase, or now an ETF, and don't think about it much beyond that. :)

Oh yeah 100% this for me too. These people (my friends and family that own BTC, for example) do not believe in crypto at all though.

Yeah, but I don't see it as strange. Lots of people own stocks even if they don't necessarily believe in the companies. Investments can, and often are, decoupled from the belief in the thing you are investing in. Probably shouldn't be that way, but it has been for basically as long as the stock market has existed. This is especially true when investing in ETFs where you may not even pay attention to the companies being bundled.

Oh yeah, Agree. I still see crypto as not as normalized as stocks but I guess the times are a changing
