Why do so many famous Founders have a reputation for being complete assholes to their employees? Elon, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc. Were they successful because of this behavior, or in spite of it?

As an inverse dataset, what's the counterpoint? What famous founders were (or are) deeply loved by their employees? One well loved dude I can think of is Patrick Collison. Also, Sam Altman fared pretty well over the weekend. (on the asshole side β, my feeling is that it's "in spite of" but with nuanced caveats).

Thich Nhat Hanh is quite an amazing entrepreneur to me. He built a huge publishing enterprise to sustain his monastic communities for decades to come π€

I wonder where Woz fits into this. From what I understand he was universally loved and well respected, and actually built all the tech Apple was founded on. I wonder how many top technologists stayed for Woz, despite also having to put up with Jobs' bullshit. Was it a good cop bad cop thing, or is that oversimplifying?
