Today would have been a good day to go to the hot springs (onsen) but I chose to go horseback riding. And instead it snowed. So the horses got to enjoy frolicking on the snowy plains and I got to watch them from the restaurant where I ate horse sashimi instead. Touché mfers. Touché.

Horse sashimi means Kumamoto, right? Even if it is Kyushu, it is unusual to have snow at this time of the year.

I’m sad the only food Mokeke was lotus root. Usually there are ones for beef in regions who consider it their speciality! But there was one for the castle!

I wonder how many new Mokeke will join us on this trip to Japan? 😆

I don't know how far north you plan to go, but by the end of the trip there will be more than 30! 😆 👍

Probably not further than Kyoto. I plan to spend all of April there and leave from there to FarCon. It’s one of my favorite cities and I don’t think anywhere else compares for Sakura. Maybe I’ll luck out and catch the wisteria again too.

Kyoto is very nice in both spring and fall. I wish I could travel as elegantly as you do.

It’s truly a spectacular city. I’m very glad I’ve been able to spend so much time there and feel comfortable getting lost there. Each trip I change myself to go further and explore more!

I think you love Japan more than the Japanese people. As a Japanese, I am very happy.

Japan makes me appreciate so many things. Not being able to read here makes me value literacy so much. I love anthropology and I’m born too early to explore the stars, so this is the closest I’ll ever get to a truly alien culture from my own. America doesn’t have a lot of history or traditions that are truly our own but Japan is brimming with them. I also feel safe here. I can’t believe that I reserve my seat at a cafe with my bag or phone. It would be stolen in the US or called in as a bomb. Being able to walk alone at all hours as a women is amazing. I can’t do that in America. I wear my headphones in America as a signal to leave me alone. I wear them here because I’m enjoying my music. I just wish I was better with languages but it’s not my strong suit at all. I can be polite but I can’t have real conversations and that always makes me sad. I really need the AI to catch up and subtitle real life for me.

I think Japanese people need to learn more that what they take for granted in Japan is not actually taken for granted in the rest of the world. Japan is also becoming less safe than it was in the Showa period, but it is still probably a safe country from a global perspective. It is easy to lose sight of that when you are inside.
