It's hard to give Japanese restaurant recommendations because my favorites are all these small mom and pop joints. Today's choice was an "Okinawan Soba" specialist. The soup is light but the pork is much heavier than your standard Japanese fare. The rice on the left is also a local speciality called juushii.

Hard to say. I'm roughly upper-intermediate. My reading, writing, and specialized vocabulary is much weaker than listening/speaking so I've slowly been grinding joyo kanji and vocabulary.

No, I wish I could though! I can live in Japan comfortably, but there are a lot of situations where I wish I was faster, better, and more natural. I also make mistakes with intonation sometimes, like かれい (fish) and カレー (w/ rice). And talking to elderly people can sometimes be really tough (especially when I was living in Kanazawa)! It's a lifelong journey.

Altogether about 6? But broken up into several phases (tokyo for uni, kanazawa and now okinawa for work)
