At the town hall I went to last week, Rep. Liccardo called quantum computing a top issue and said it could be “a couple years” away. The timeline sounded so ambitious I assumed he misspoke… until I saw this post today. How is quantum being talked about in your corner of the U.S.? Is it?

saw the same tweet and sent it to a friend who’s trying to break into the field. started looking into meetups and lectures to get a feel for things. have you seen any? the us seems to be in an interesting tit for tat cycle, eyeing china, checking off boxes like “we need to be better” and “dominate the supply chain.” i’m hopeful of the signals for the awakening to focus on building in atoms with bits

Omg I worked for him last summer lol I took a quantum physics seminar my first quarter of college, and honestly the rhetoric was pretty bearish. It’s def a long ways away. By then, I’m not sure if quantum computing will offer an advantage compared to where AI will already be

We'll continue to make progress, but quantum computing is a bit like flying cars, we have the all theoretical physics of how it would work, we just don't know how to make, manufacture, and operate one reliably & economically. Even 'easier' leaves on the tech tree, like photonic computing, have been a long time coming.

I gather from @prompterminal that we are underestimating the timeline and risk to crypto.
