Man, this is so real.
People always talk about self-care like it’s bubble baths, eating healthy, going on walks—and yeah, those things help. But the real self-care? It’s way deeper than that.
It’s sitting with all the stuff you’ve been carrying for years. The pain, the guilt, the words people said that stuck with you.
It’s realizing how much of your own behavior was just survival—trying to protect yourself, even when it hurt you in the long run.
It’s catching yourself in the middle of a thought like, “I’m not good enough,” and going, “Wait, where did that even come from?”
It’s unlearning the crap people made you believe about yourself.
And sometimes, it’s forgiving yourself for the things you did when you didn’t know any better.
The older I get, the more I understand—it’s not just about adding good things to my life, it’s about slowly peeling off the layers of hurt and habits that were never mine to carry.
It’s heavy work. Quiet work. But damn, it’s the most important kind. 1 reply
