with some vc-backed founders I feel like I'm talking to a carefully crafted narrative

often the 4th wall breaks when you tell them something and they say "oh that really resonates, I should start pitching this more like..." - like dude I'm trying to have a conversation with *you*, is there anyone actually there?

this doesn't actually apply to the best vc-backed founders because they understand how to keep somewhat of a distance from the narrative. they operate better because they can make clear-headed decisions rather than being lost in the sauce.
