Best neighborhoods to live in LA? Never want to get in my car if possible. Proximity to the beach is a plus not a must.

I grew up there for one. I had a portrait business that took me to high end clients all over the county. 

I loved my clients all over but the most interesting people were east side. Like west side was actors and CEO’s but east side was where all the art directors, writers and musicians lived. More “real”, more down to earth, more interesting

Interesting! My dad has a place in Long Beach. It’s a cool town for sure. 

What makes you lean toward the east side more? Larger spaces, less busy?

1. I am strongly biased towards the east side. Silverlake, Pasadena, La Crecenta

My favorites are Sierra Madre and Altadena but I hesitate for obvious reasons 

Also, I’d take Long Beach over Venice and Santa Monica every day.

I love surfing Huntington but couldn’t live there because of the politics.

We are looking at a potential LA move and I am struggling to find a neighborhood I’m excited about.

Yeah I hear you there. We considered OC. Huntington is kind of a nice middle ground but the oil derricks literally in neighborhoods, rigs visibly off the coast, and to some extent the politics are a concern.

Do not go to the East side if you want to be at the beach and not drive.

I would live in a coastal town (Eg Manhattan beach, the OC if it wasn’t full of the KKK) as far from Los Angeles proper as possible.

Venice is also ok but will be painful since you’ve experienced San Diego and how nice a coastal town can be.

Interesting. For me transportation is almost exclusively centered around my wife and toddler so public transit probably not the most efficient for us. But will take a look anyway! Appreciate the tips.

If you are willing to deal with public transit to avoid driving then anywhere along the Expo line from Downtown to Santa Monica would be a good options to check out.

Was thinking Santa Monica but it’s kind of isolating if you do need to leave that side of town right? 

As much as I’ve visited LA I’m a complete noob with the geography.
