I want to like science fiction, but I have 2 issues with most science fiction: 1. Sci-fi movies have spoiled my with the vivid and amazing scenes. My imagination just isn't that good. I had a hard time visualizing some of these worlds. 2. Character development is often pretty weak. I need characters with real depth and maybe even a sense of humor. Any recommendations there? Haven't found a good one in a long time.

What have you read recently? Have you read the old classics? Favorite recent-ish read of mine that actually made me feel something was The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Leguin

Actually I recently got into The Dispossessed but half way through I found myself kinda disnegaged. Wasn't sure I felt like I knew why I was reading anymore as there didn't seem to be any drama. Haven't given up but was feeling uninspired.
