I want to like science fiction, but I have 2 issues with most science fiction: 1. Sci-fi movies have spoiled my with the vivid and amazing scenes. My imagination just isn't that good. I had a hard time visualizing some of these worlds. 2. Character development is often pretty weak. I need characters with real depth and maybe even a sense of humor. Any recommendations there? Haven't found a good one in a long time.

What have you read recently? Have you read the old classics? Favorite recent-ish read of mine that actually made me feel something was The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Leguin

This sounds familiar but the best science fiction I’ve ever read was by Connie Willis. Haven’t read her in years because I kind of gave up on the genre, but I’d definitely try reading her again.
