Why do apps drop points rather than an onchain token? Feels mid to me. Just drop the token and give people skin in the game for real asap

Bullish onchain points for this exact reason. Onchain points are skin in the game early on before the product has matured to a level where full skin in the game (through an L2 ERC-20) makes sense. Different from off-chain points because you can redeem the onchain points for USDC

We implemented this using soulbound tokens for https://parabol.fi (high yield fiat backed stablecoin protocol) soulbound tokens are onchain points to reserve liquidity and access to higher yields

Points allow for more optionality and every lawyer will tell you not to drop a token With that said, tokens over points all day every day

1. Fear of regulatory crackdown 2. Easy to adjust "pointinomics" on the fly whereas onchain tokenomics are rather set in stone after token launch

Completely agree but seems to have been the GTM strategy for most the last few months. I think the meta here worked for a bit and was a huge boost in awareness for early points but getting tired of it. Understand regulatory concern aspects but come on, skin in the game baby

Why do you think they opt for points rather than a on-chain token?

as a former mobile dev, I can say its 100% because your app wont get approved by apple/google store if you use crypto. See the last clause which applies to rewards system in apps using crypto (source: https://developer.apple.com/app-store/review/guidelines/#in-app-purchase)

Points give more flexibility. Once you give the tokens they are gone, when you give points you still have the ability to make changes and adjust the system.

You can leverage the conversion rate - incentivize the community that they get a good rate if goals are achieved - we did that and actually launched 2 tokens on-chain. Works like a charm

We view points as a derivative to a token allowing for better alignment for the life time value of the app. Points empower smarter incentives

- points are a proxy for having skin in the game - as a founder, they give you more flexibility shipped your product and think about tokenomic later - points enhance user engagement. if FT had initially dropped a token, users would have dumped it in the meltdown; the current excitement indicates a likely re-engagement.
