Anyone else record a 22 minute video after lying in bed for days thinking about how we’re messing up our planet? Just me? I’m choosing *not* to post this on Farcaster because it’s too depressing. You can comment if you want the link, but it’s on the dangers of ocean acidification that aren’t discussed.Beware

I had this vibe a lot in my 20s. Doing env chem and toxicology made me more optimistic about natures ability to endure/mediate But there is such large scale disregard for sustainability in agriculture/ocean fishing/ etc that industry needs regulatory guardrails for We’ve made a lot of progress, but tying these institutions to the political cycle is fucked for sure

agree with everything you’re saying. We just gotta hope we have more time than the models this paper came up with suggest. Nature can do a lot. But in my uninformed opinion, it’s on geologic time. We’re also doing a LOT to it. On human time. What will happen? We’ll see. It’s not only regulations but enforcing

Them. I read a stat saying the majority of the argentinian navy budget goes to defending against chinese fishing vessels. Sucks. Imo though as an American, i would MUCH rather see our military budget going to regulating overfishing and enforcing laws than fighting some foreign war we have no business being in.

Oh? I’m not up to date with that news. I just want there to be sufficiently enforced marine protected areas. We can literally bring back fishing stocks and never have to worry again if we protect 30% of the ocean. Sadly, I’m not sure if we’ll do that in time as a society

No news (yet?) just a silly prediction My sister works fisheries for the fed in California and it’s scary to see what has happened to Pacific fisheries in the northwest. Mostly from dams! There is hope that the populations will recover tho! I’m in AK and salmon is such a big part of our lives, we get scared when the runs are low!
