Story time: The reason my family colonized America is, about 400 years ago, a Catholic Queen started setting us on fire. It was a big thing, they even made merch to commemorate it (a print of their murder is pictured). To consolidate her power, “Bloody” Mary decided to kill off protestants. My ancestors didn’t renounce Protestantism; instead they sang while they burned. The ones that escaped fled to America. Their sacrifice was meaningless; it did nothing to benefit their communities or families. If your survival hinges on joining a church or religion, don’t make the same mistake my ancestor did. Pay lip service to whatever bullshit god, then go about the life you want to live.

Jews in the Holocaust generally tried to hide their religion instead of just being observant and getting easily identified.

Jews in the holocaust didn’t have the option to convert, generally. Frankly, their situation was much harder. The Catholic/Protestant fighting was generally related to political factions, whereas Jews faced scapegoating and white supremacy.

Right, there was no option. Basically had to just remove any sign of being Jewish and hope you don't get identified.
