why didn’t short form text social spur a poetry renaissance?

feels like a content medium that could’ve flourished as a result of the rise of bite sized content feeds 🤔

Philosophers like Han argue that it's because we've started to use language in the neoliberal paradigm aka it's supposed to be efficient for something (even if to increase our status on socials) but not to be used for play - which poetry is. that is more broad, but might have contributed to no renaissance.

It's a good question, idk, but it's interesting to ponder. I reckon for him it'd be if it's not used in ways to advance one's productivity/ economic standing.

there was a popular alt-lit poetry movement on tumblr/twitter in the early 2010s but like most things on the internet, it got cycled through quickly and most alt-lit poetry was indistinguishable from regular shitposting. shitposting has become a default online mode which kind of means everyone is writing poetry now

^this type of language play is what i would classify early shitposting as. but even shitposting as play has become "efficient" (╥_╥) (prolific shitposters become celebrities etc) 

social media has the habit of commodifying play which, following this logic, is anti-poetic

i suppose part of what alt-lit was trying to do was undermine the delivery medium to still deliver poetry

but then – if the poems come in a trough, are they still poems if the livestock animals can't read or comprehend the language they're written in? (๑>ᴗ<๑)
