do any of you NYC experts have unpatched recommendations for finding an apartment? my summer lease is up August 10 and looking for long term place (ideally studio or 1 bd) have tried Facebook and some other platforms but no luck so far :/

Try working with a broker. I know that the fees can be expensive but they often have access to inventory early or not found anywhere else, especially now with the new broker fee laws. You can still hunt for no-fee spots on your own and usually only have to pay them if you move into a place they find.
