Indeed, my son has a 2020 model and the oil drain bolt is plastic, which I could not believe. Then, one of (also plastic!) brake line brackets broke, allowing his brake line to contact the drive shaft, intermittently making this wild ass noise when he drove it. A CPO car at the time he bought it too. What a joke.

mine’s a 2016 (F20, no available in US) and is a pure driver’s car and has never failed me, but I get the sentiment. for me anything built after 2019 is a disaster waiting to happen, let alone a BMW

Yeah, they're ugly, but also terribly built, and super unreliable. You could not give me one made after 2010. BMW is over.

from my extensive peruse of various automotive sources, and watching A LOT of interviews with BMW designers and engineers, the reason seem very simple: EGO and POWER (within BMW group)

also, they don't give a shit about brand loyalty anymore; i can see this in the approach of their showroom staff

i still remember when VW was enticing me to upgrade, by giving me a better courtesy car for free; i guess BMW is afraid people will find out how shit their cars are nowadays
