streaming platforms make it hard to continue watching your shows, pushing new shows instead

wonder what motivates this, can't just be a mistake/stupidity

Users will jump thru more hoops to continue watching a show whereas maybe they won’t for discovery 

Agree the new netflix UI is kinda confusing though

i assumed that much, but at the cost of making it hard to just continue watching shows? i'd assume "watching a whole show that i like" is a more important user journey to them than "i watched part of the hot new show everyone is watching". although, now that i write that down, i can see how it would be reversed, especially if someone binges a whole new show in a night

They used to be great at keeping track of where you left off in shows too

Now that feature has gone to shit too

Being in the middle of a show increases the user will come back. 

Every on-going show compounds this effect. 

Finishing a show deletes the effect.

Users are willing to endure more UX friction to finish a show than to try and find a new one
