What is the ultimate community chat platform for a group of 500+ *regular people* in 2025? * Is it a WhatsApp Community w/ separate channels? * Telegram could be perfect, but most regular people I know don't use it... but they might onboard specifically for the community For meaningful engagement, it would need to be near-zero learning curve & likely needs to use a platform that's already part of their daily life... Would love thoughts!

Telegram is the best imo but WhatsApp probably has more people who already have accounts. Discord and Slack are more powerful options but I think they tend to be too overwhelming for most users.

WA but NOT with separate channels : they don't properly show up on WA desktop so people miss messages So the solution is ONE WA group (using a business account as the mod)

near-zero learning curve for 500+ regular people can only mean whatsapp, telegram is considered too techy for regular people

TG, Discord is kind of nuts as a new users. Most folks probably have WhatsApp but I think TG is better

Matrix rooms are an option for single text channels. Matrix can be configured to "bridge" all other services. I've seen some uni communities do WhatsApp + Telegram + IRC + Matrix superchannels. Downside is that it's not easy to setup for the administrator.
