🏙 summarizing what I said on my honest 10pm @walkntalk through Chelsea…

I really appreciated the post, especially the honest, personal take on discovery and engagement. We need more of that on here.

But here’s the thing:
Nowadays, even the most sincere, personal take—if it’s text—could’ve been written by anyone.
Or by AI.

But when someone speaks into a camera, face-to-face, that hits different. That feels human. That’s where I want to go with this.


🤝 Agree with most of the post — but the final paragraph…

I don’t think open data, mini apps, or zk proofs actually solve discovery. They’re exciting, but they’re exciting infrastructure. They say, “someone could fix this using this… eventually.”

I’ve got a counterproposal that works now.

🏞 Think of the problem of discovery as the problem of someone being heard in a public park (e.g., hyde park in London) 
	•	Imagine a big park. Everyone’s trying to be heard.
	•	When the park gets huge m, the park platforms decide who gets a soapbox, a mic, a bullhorn or a speaker tower.
	•	Discovery is just: who gets amplified?

Open data says: someone other then the park platfom’s founders might build better soapboxs, powerful bullhorns. 

Mini apps: fun widgets and games can be built for people to have fun, interact and connect in the park. 

ZK proofs: people in one park can prove they were a big deal in another park. 


✉️  Platform grow out of signature forms of content
	•	Early Twitter: fortune cookie size leaflets .
	•	Instagram: square image leaflets
	•	TikTok: rhythmic videos. 
      •     Substack: pamphlets  

These are still not truly authentic conversation. They still lack presence.


🎥 My counterproposal: boost front-facing video replies
	•	Make face-to-camera replies easy and prominent.
	•	Video captures presence, sincerity, human affect, voices, faces and bodies.
	•	It’s:
	•	Harder to fake
	•	More civically aware (you feel seen, so you show up as a more loving open and curious verison of yourself…@jessepollak is the one crypto person who truly knows this, which is why he ALWAYS does those videos) 
	•	Inherently embodied and honest
	•	And makes it obvious: this was made by a person

🏛 Let’s build an amazing nee decentralized park qua agora—where real humans, with real thouhts and emotions and philosophical intentions are discoverable—not just an stack of cool infrastructure 
	•	Farcaster could become the ultimate decentralized park with an amazingly informative set of Speakers’ Corners.
	•	In the age of AI, bots, and copious slop, honest heartfelt human presence should be the default discovery vector.
	•	Video reply button, native video optimization features (auto-captioning and faster video upload) and boosting front-facing video is how we could get there—today

Coincidentally, I just posted a response to @ted  on my 10pm walk through Chelsea—summarizing what i think farcaster can do better. 

Optimizing the creation, sharing and discovery of front-facing video content. 

Rewards, air drops, open data and zk infra are great new infrastructure, but not enough to solve discovery and engagement in the age of rampant BOTification and AI image, video, and text generation. 

We need a authentically civic and peripatetic approach to validating real human presence.

Video replies. Face-forward discourse.

That’s how you build a decentralized digital park that people are excited to hang out in and invite their friends to.  

And it all starts by making front-facing videos easier to make, share and discover.
