Count yourself lucky, then. Ours has quite a regular diet, but still manages to produce things that make us want to move to another planet. 

And more seriously: yes, it can be the smallest thing.

We have a similar creature in the house who does similar things with a similar amount of remorse (0). I know what you went through and I'm affraid there will be more of it.
