tRuMp sTuPiD crowd gets it wrong again. As Yanis Varoufakis has been yelling from the rooftops since last year, Trump isn't an idiot. His tariff war is harmful for billions of people but it is calculated and NOT STUPID. He genuinely has a shot at reducing trade deficit and making his base happy with his tariff war. So far, Trump got US a far better deal with China compared to what US had under Biden, and is on the path to do so with the EU too. Others will follow suit if not careful. The real idiots are those who undermine him and stick to their comfortable position of being a western supremacist. The only possible path for EU was to entertain the idea of entering these negotiations together with Mexico, China, India - but EU leadership is too racist to ever consider themselves equal to these countries.

Trade deficits always shrink during recessions, so it’s not really a win if the economy is in the shitter at the same time. Which all signs point in that direction. Job growth in the private sector has basically stopped entirely. He’s revealed that he literally is stupid on trade. I mean the Brazil tariffs have no trade objective at all. They are literally just about him trying to help a different corrupt politician. His base is only happy with tariffs so far because they haven’t felt the impact because of all the tacoing. If he leaves them up, they will have a super detrimental effect on the economy. 50% tariffs on copper are batshit.

It's more than only recession, there are clear concessions he's getting. But additionally, I don't think he cares about the recession anyways. Brazil thing is politically motivated - all of it is. Same reason why he goes after Mexico, Canada - he dislikes their politics. What you call tacoing is him playing a war of attrition. It is a bet for sure and he may fail but we have to be honest, he holds a lot of the cards because it's the freaking US with all its military, economic and diplomatic strength. This is why he keeps getting these concessions from China, India, EU... US is just too powerful and others are too stupid to join forces.
