My Iranian-born wife and I are on vacation in the Caribbean for what was supposed to be a joyful milestone wedding anniversary for us. 

Instead, we are in despair and she has been weeping in my arms this morning over the death and destruction we are witnessing in her native land — waged by an Israel emboldened and enabled by the United States where I was born and where we now live.

As I type this, she is in the other room of our vacation rental, tearfully urging her elderly widowed mother — still recovering from a double total knee replacement — to flee Tehran and seek safety outside the city.
