Reading conservative online spaces is depressing. Gone is any pretense of ideological rigor. Due process? Separation of powers? Civil liberties? All of it is nerd shit now. Not a single principled voice expressing concern over the invocation of a wartime act to disappear people the public has no insight into.

Honestly I really don't think it always been like this and I think we shouldn't underestimate the deleterious effects of Trump and Fox News on the Republican party.

No, I’m being facetious, I don’t think it’s *always* been like this either, and I’m not old enough to say when it started. I think conservatives with decent principles and critical thinking must still exist, but Trump makes it near impossible for them to ideologically support their party at the moment. Though I don’t think it the decay started with Trump. More likely a product of Fox News, sped up and load tested by Trumpism. But maybe when your ideology is basically based on “conserve capital for the capitalists” it was not very sound to begin with and the ideological arguments were all a bit fake. Idk just spitballing
