the way my mother talks about herself makes me feel sad 

then i wonder if my own approach to life is a retaliation, a deep will to "not be like that"

are my actions, my desire to step into my own power and take control over my life, reactionary or innate?

A lot of my life decisions came from not wanting to end up like my parents.  Apparently it is very normal for second children to have this mentality.

I can't complain - I am happy =)
