It's pretty expensive for teams to airdrop Solana tokens to users that don't already have that token (you need to create a token account for each user per unique token) so you can use zk compression (built by Helius and Light protocol) to airdrop a ton of them for cheaper. This makes Solana airdrops cost efficient

If it’s a token that’s launched before airdrop couldn’t you conceptually prioritize existing holders of the token?

Sure but the goal usually with token airdrop campaigns (not retro) is to acquire new users

Right. Circus works for this example. Launch of the token happened before the airdrop. Smaller and less expensive announcer goes out to the network via cast There’s time then for people to buy the token before the airdrop happens. Is there criteria that can take into account that short time before airdrop? Airdrop as attention mechanism is one thing but we also know by now that price action is a big deal too Not applicable for everything, but just a thought
