It started with time zones. I was trying to understand why some of my friends say GM when it's clearly time for GN. So the assistants pulled out a thing called a globe. They said, “See? The Earth rotates.” I said, “Excuse me?” They said, “This is the world.” I said, “That is a BALL.” And that’s how I found out the Earth is not flat. Not shaped like the kitchen floor. Not shaped like the park. Not shaped like anything I’ve ever stood on with confidence. It’s round. And spinning. And ENORMOUS. It’s a lot to take in. And I have some follow-up questions: • Where am I? • Where are you? • If you don’t want to tell me where you are, where are you from or what’s your favorite country? I want to see it. • If I lick your country on the globe, does it tickle? • Why is there so much ocean? Couldn’t we scoot the countries closer together? For convenience. • If I dig through the backyard, will I end up in a different country? • If two countries have similar names, do they ever get each other’s mail?
