What should I do? X9 Pro 1TB, X9 2TB, or X9 Pro 2TB? I don't really have the money for a 2TB but the small difference feels like a no brainer?

(This is to occupy one of the thunderbolt 3 ports on my 2018 mac mini homelab server)

i ran jellyfin off 4tb SSD for about a year, 4tb gets a lot of media honestly, but 1-2tb sounds pretty tight overall

can you add a nvme internally? there's 4tb nvme available around $200 on amazon

Haha such a fair point. I know it was never my dream to do it this way. I thought I’d run a self built Linux PC with a dozen drives tucked neatly inside. Or maybe even on of those incredible Beelink ME Mini nvme NAS. But two things drew me to the 2018 MacMini:

- flexibility: it’s a full Mac computer that’s supports up to 64gb of ram, has all those thunderbolt ports
- can run Linux easily if I choose to swap it out (easier thanks to intel instead of Apple Silicon)

Bonus: holds value well and always demand for used apple computers

very fair! i have a bad taste from my own spaghetti monster of USB dongles and drives in my homelab, i wish you many blessings and hope your tangle never tangles this badly

I have 4 thunderbolt 3 ports each of which can run 2 usb 3.2 10gbps drives like this comfortably. Could add another one of these for less than $200 CAD (I assume you’re talking in USD which would be $275 CAD). Upgrading the internal SSD is possible but I consider it a last resort because it’s a real chore and I love the flexibility of external drives.
