i got into crypto for sci-fi grade, cypherpunk technologies as products, those seem unattainable, unattractive and far fetched and the stablecoin type applications or defi-in-the-back types seem too boring to excite me anymore where do we go from here

in a way the cypherpunk dream died in 2020-21 when we realized we can't have a crypto-backed stablecoin at scale or any sort of scaling tech on bitcoin without added trust assumptions i wasn't even in the purist camp back then i was on the risk calls trying to get wbtc into maker and rage tweeting ineffectiveness of lightning but that was when the dream died it was the beginning of the end

Keep the faith, brother This is what adoption looks like: boring, predictable, safe The weird stuff that rhymes with the madness we came of age with will come back in ~10-15 years but will be a lot more likely to work But we need to climb the slope of enlightenment first and that looks like Stripe issuing a stablecoin

I'm reminded of the ending to the Epic of Gilgamesh, with Gilgamesh and Urshanabi taking in the greatness of Uruk, with all its structures. crypto is by no means discovered. we don't yet have a city of protocols, where all layers of activity are trivially onchain. I also think we're recuperating from a period of bad faith, like the enforcement against algostable primitives like Opyn's. nobody said it was going to be easy, but there are hidden pockets of innovation, and more of the ecosystem will be inspired and urged as the epiphany sets in. who knows, we'll see.

the shift of average user due to lack of interest of the tech vs making money is what's wrong and I think that's a macro effect, less a cause of crypto knowledge is power. how many base users actually understand what a blockchain is? probs less than solana users
