Hey folks -- we're making a big investment in improving our video UX. That said, would encourage folks to start posting videos in 9:16 aspect ratio (like TikTok, IG Reels, YT Shorts). Would also encourage people to add captions -- using CapCut, Captions (app), Descript, Kapwing, etc.

I'm glad you're putting work into video, but I'll create my videos in whatever aspect ratio I damn well please.

Does that mean other aspect ratios will be less likely to be seen in people's feeds? That would kind of suck for a lot of artists.

They will be in the normal text feed. But the video feed will be optimized for vertical video on mobile (where most usage is). We're optimizing for more users / audience, which benefits everyone.

Hi Dan, thanks for the information. Regarding this algorhythmic preference for the Video Feed being optimized for Vertical Video... is this based on direct video uploads only, or does it take in to account of videos uploaded via miniapps as well? (Not embeds of other people's videos) I'm looking at original content uploaded but via an app such as @pinetreeso.eth for instance. @androidsixteen.eth Just something to consider for chart hungry creators when they choose their medium of uploading their content... via direct upload or through app.

Don't want to speak for @dwr.eth, but I imagine the video feed will only have native videos -- it's not clear how you can know which mini app link corresponds to a video, unless Farcaster manually whitelabels certain links (which would be weird and also break the flow of autoplaying videos to swipe through But happy to work through this problem with you. My sense is: use native videos for shortform content (30-60s) and Pinetree for longer form when you need to index it and get more long-form video features like chapters or linking to a specific timestamp Also @pinetreeso.eth is a scam account, our official handle is @pinetree
