My mom did Meals on Wheels today and told me about one of her clients When she was young she suffered from bad acne What did they do back then? THEY BLASTED HER FACE WITH RADIATION 😭 Later in life perhaps predictably suffered consequences from that The past is a foreign country https://www.jaad.org/article/S0190-9622(15)00238-8/abstract

Exactly, the 70s/80s were a center of a lot of unfounded information and unbridled use of things without even research on, here in Brazil there was a very bizarre culture especially in coastal cities, people using different types of different products to create a perfect tan, from engine oil to craziest things you cant even imagine

Although it’s not on the same level as what you mention, one thing that comes to mind that I recently learned about is keratin hair treatments. I guess they often contain formaldehyde, and when you combine it with heat it’s bad news. I’d been using keratin plus hot iron for awhile before I heard that. Now I’m stuck with an expensive bottle of it that I’m afraid to use anymore lol
