85% (44/52) of NYC’s public pools had to be shut down last summer because someone pooped in them https://www.vice.com/en/article/people-wont-stop-pooping-in-new-york-citys-public-pools/

So I had the uh…privilege… of hearing in depth how the City of Hamilton pools handle « fouling events » (poops) and it’s a common occurrence with a SOP. 1. Test water 2. Shut down pool 3. Test water 4. Clean pool (physical, chemical, usually takes 24h) 5. Test water 6. If 5 is good, open up. So I didn’t RTFA but the numbers seem normal to me.

😂 is there one attendant scanning for rogue poops, or multiple? I mostly envision it’s like when someone spots a shark and yells and everyone swims for their lives towards shore. even if there were a calm announcement over the bullhorn, it couldn’t mention poop otherwise people would freak tf out right? so many scenarios playing out in my head.

This is honestly alarming from a public health perspective. 44 out of 52 pools shut down because of fecal incidents? Has the city said how they’re planning to prevent this from happening again?

This is just how pools be. All the local rental house’s pools get raccoon poops and idk why they do it but it always seems like pettiness to me
