I love the ritual of coffee. The coffee itself is great but the process is the star of the show. I love the smell of the beans, the aroma from the grind, the subtle notes that tickle your nose as it brews and blooms. Nothing else quite hits like this.

I remember reading some time back - though did not verify its veracity - that, while caffeine plays a part in the morning wakeup process, the routine of enjoying the coffee plays a part in it, too.

I did a week of decaf and I felt the same, so I would believe this. But if I don’t make the coffee and just buy it, I don’t get the same endorphins. But if I hang out in a shop that’s grinding a lot of beans and has a distinct smell of coffee brewing I feel like I get the same kick. My parents don’t drink coffee, but my grandparents did so I think I have a lot of core Happy memories about the smell of coffee brewing that I associate with staying at my grandparents house on the weekends.

The experience is something that can't be ignored. I can make a nice cocktail at home, but the experience of doing it at a restaurant or bar is worth getting out of the house, even if the cocktail tastes the same.
