if i was 18 this year i would live on my parents house and spend 8 hours every day learning how to code smart contracts and farcaster frames, playing around with ideas and shipping everything asap

basically 100% focused on learning a valuable skills and creating stuff

why not more people do this?

loool yes. i mean i was having toooons of fun, but stuck on a box (mental frame of reference) that now i look and wonder what needs to change in order for kids to get out of it earlier so they can do more [redacted] things with their life sooner

think that my main thing is that spent 6 years on engineering school and i have never felt like it has been used in my life in a way that makes it worth it

when I was 18 I was in love for the first time and read a lot, thought I knew exactly what I was going to do with my life (I was so wrong)

im 33 now. i went to engineering school because i basically unconsciously wanted to follow my father's footsteps. it was never something that crossed my awareness. at that point i was drunk every weekend, playing lots of soccer, and felt that social media was the worst poison in the world. didn't use it. when covid that thought changed from the inside out

did you eventually learn? how?

When I was 18, I was 2 years in to running my first business, it was the dot com bubble, I was painting the houses of everyone with a pile of exit liquidity and I was beginning to kick myself for not learning to code because they were paying insane prices for me to slap paint on their houses. I didn’t started to learn how to code until after 30

im 100% in agreement with this, and i usually refer to “doing something creative”, or cultivating a given skill. any skill. here i said programming because that’s the skill I decided to sharpen as a craft with consistency, but I believe this applies to everything

it’s about believing in yourself and pursuing that with commitment. life will open doors

Programming isn't for everyone, honestly. I don't think we should pretend that it is, or that there's anything wrong with not being well suited for being a programmer, in the same way that I'm not well suited to be an athlete, a CEO, a book store clerk, an accountant, a baker, a handyman, a...
